Rocket League - Best Tips to Rank UP FAST

There is some few things you should know before ranking up in rocket league.

Me and players I personally talked to had good results with specific advice like:

Basic game sense you need to know.

Don't be afraid to play defensive and let your teammates chase.

On defense, rotate to the backpost and defend the goal from there.

Try to conserve your momentum and boost as much as possible.

Keep your distance from the play until you have a clear shot.

Important mechanics are powershots and double-jump aerials. When combined you can make a powerful/smart play. Ex: Use a double-jump to save an incomming shot, and then making a powershot of the bounce from the save etc.

Be where your teammates aren't, position wise.

There are a lot of small things that are normal in higher ranks but aren't common knowledge for players struggling to climb. All this is obviously targeted towards lower ranks and not high champ players.

Tips and how to play smarter/better!

Try to play passive, don't go for crazy stuff but wait for your opponent to make a play. Shadow him when he does and try to wait more mistakes on his end. Try to demolition/bump whenever you can and play it safe.

With crazy stuff i mean, airdribbles or flip resets etc. Good game sense is a great start, with time and practice you will learn how to do those things, eventually.

You have to switch up your offensive plays.

Lets say you go for dribblings all the time but suddenly you take a long shot. The enemy will attack you early because he thinks you will dribble again, it will result in him reading you wrong and him not being able to save the shot this way.

One of the most important things is to always try to steal boost until your enemy is starved, so you can outplay them in speed and recover quickly.

Make sure you feel confident in controlling your car in all situations. You can do this by warming up in freeplay, so you aim your focus on feeling comfortable on moving fast around the field before jumping in to competitive gameplay.

Tips and how to play smarter/better with a teammate!

In 2’s you should either be pressuring the ball or rotating back while your teammate is pushing up to put pressure on the opponents.

If you’re on defense, one of you needs to challenge and the other rotate back, best positioning would be backpost no matter what the situation is, to support your teammate if he fails the challenge.

Work on your recoveries so that when you do challenge and fail, you’re ruining the game. Just because your teammate passes does not mean you should go for it. If you see an opponent who can reach the ball before you can, the best thing to do is to stay back and wait for his move before deciding whether to challenge or rotate back.

There is an important mechanic you should get good at, its called shadow defending. It means that you are shadowing the ball in a way where you opponent can challange the ball.

You shadow defend by staying close to the ball, when the opponet got possesion of it, in a way where you are positioned between the goal and the ball.

Many times in 2s it gets down to not messing up more than your opponent. Read the play and have

patience. Plan for the outcomes and don't over-commit as mistakes in 2s can be critical without that last man back, who is prepared to save an incomming ball.

Tips and how to play smarter/better with two teammates!

Play around your teammates. If they're the type that like to chase the ball, stay really far away from them and try to predict where they will hit the ball. If they're the type that like to play super defensively, you can go for aggressive plays.

An important skill to have is to be able to find your opponents weaknesses.

Play off their weaknesses. Ex: They struggle in defense, they overcommit 3 players in offense, they can't handle backboard clears, etc.

There never needs to be a dedicated goalie, just stay moving, stay reactive. If you notice your teammates are passive and will let you push up, then go hard.

SUMMARY

If you've made it this far, im doing a lot of repetition from what's been said in the "tips" sections.

  • 1’s is about decision making and mechanics.
  • 2’s is in between. Of course mechanics and decision making play a role in every mode. Try adjusting to your teammate. Adapting to your teammate is a big thing in solo qeueing.
  • 3’s is about consistency, teamwork, reading the field and defense/rotations. You can be pretty bad mechanically in 3’s and still make it somewhat high if you can read a situations and understand game/team fundamentals. A.k.a "game sense".

A big factor in solo queueing 3’s is being able to read your random teammates as fast as possible and adjust to their play styles.

Trying to CARRY every 3’s game won’t work, sometimes you gotta let your dumb teammates chase then bang the easy buckets. Take the initiative and be the "bigger man".

There never needs to be a dedicated goalie, just stay moving, stay reactive and stay focused. If you notice your teammates are passive and will let you push up, then go hard.

Don't stop solo queueing because you rank down. Instead, you should keep the grind going and work on your mechanics, since the gameplay is slower than usual.

Rocket League - Fundamentals of Trading

Hello, this guide should help You how to start with trading in Rocket League. This guide contains some tips and tricks alongside with my thoughts. This guide is 100% based on my trading experience.

Important

⠀⠀READ THIS: Please, use this guide just as some tool that will help You start with trading. I am not very experienced trader, so many of my advices may be inaccurate. It is all up to You to find out what works best for you.

Preparation⠀⠀

⠀⠀In order to start trading, You have to own some items, that are tradable. Your items don't have to be very valuable. For example, I started with items worth 200 credits and after 2 weeks I earned 5000 credits just by trading. The more items You have, the more trades You can make.

⠀⠀Next step you have to do, is to create a profile on Rocket League Garage. For me, this is the best site for trading and I'm using it most of the time.

Creating Your trade offers

⠀⠀To add a trade offer on this site, follow picture below.

⠀⠀Now You have to select items You have and select how many credits / what items You want in exchange as in picture below.

Choosing the right price

⠀⠀Choosing the right price is very important. If You select a high price on Your items, it may happen, that it will take a very long time to sell your items, or You will not sell it at all.

⠀⠀For setting the price, I'm using the site Rocket League Insider, where You can find prices of all tradable items in the game. The lower price You choose, the faster You can sell Your items.

⠀⠀Second choice of setting the right price is making a research on Rocket League Garage. You can look at all trades there to see for how many credits people are selling their items.

⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀Prices on RL insider are set by: x-y (50-70)

Here I show You how I choose optimal price based on RL Insider prices.

  • 10-20⠀►⠀20 Credits
  • 20-40⠀►⠀30 Credits
  • 30-50⠀►⠀40 Credits
  • 40-60⠀►⠀50 Credits
  • 50-70⠀►⠀60 Credits
  • 50-80⠀►⠀60 Credits
  • 60-80⠀►⠀70 Credits
  • 70-90⠀►⠀80 Credits
  • 80-100⠀►⠀90 Credits
  • 100-150⠀►⠀110 Credits
  • etc.

Reselling

⠀⠀The best way to increase Your amount of credits, is to resell items. Reselling is basically when You buy items under their regular price and selling them for more credits than You bought them for. Here are few examples of Reselling that I am using.

Non-crate rare/very rare Reselling

⠀⠀Easiest items to resell are Non-crate rares (NCR) and Non-crate very rare (NCVR) items.

I usually buy:⠀⠀⠀3x NCR = 10 Credits

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀1x NCVR = 20 Credits

I usually sell:⠀⠀⠀1x NCR = 10 Credits

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀1x NCVR = 30 Credits

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Limited Reselling

⠀⠀Reselling limiteds is more riskier, but sometimes You can achieve bigger profit.

I usually buy:⠀⠀⠀12x Limited items = 10 Credits

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I usually sell:⠀⠀⠀1x Limited item = 10 - 100 Credits

⠀⠀People are most of the time unaware of prices of their limited items. Every limited item have a different price. Here, You should use RL Insider to check out the prices of limiteds You earned from Your trades.

⠀⠀The reason why this method of reselling is more riskier, is because some Limiteds are very hard to sell. For example, items from current Events or Rocket Passes are almost impossible to sell, because many people alredy own them.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Exotic wheels Reselling

⠀⠀Reselling Exotics is pretty good way of reselling. Most popular Exotics are for example K2, Draco, Zomba or Gernot, which can be bought for 40 credits and sold for 90 very easily.

I usually buy:⠀⠀⠀1x Exotic = 40 Credits

I usually sell:⠀⠀⠀1x Exotic = 50-100 Credits according to RL Insider

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀

Black Market Reselling

⠀⠀This is the most expensive form of reselling, because Black Market (BM) items are quite expensive.

I usually buy:⠀⠀⠀1x BM = 90-100% of their lowest price, listed on RL Insider

I usually sell:⠀⠀⠀1x BM = 100-110% of their lowest price, listed on RL Insider

Conclusion⠀

⠀⠀Aight guys, for now, this is all You need to know to start trading just as I did. I wish You all good luck.

Rocket League - Boost Management Guide

Boost management is one of the essential tools of every Rocket League player. This guide explains the background of the design and provides information regarding boost, its management and how to best utilize different aspects of it.

Introduction

Boost management is one of the essential tools of every Rocket League player. This guide explains the background of the design and provides information regarding boost, its management and how to best utilize different aspects of it.

Pick-up based design

For Rocket League, boost is a pick-up based design, creating resource limitations that are positional. The boost does not refill by itself, and can only be gained via pick-ups (either pads or capsules) that can be found on the field. This creates an aspect of field positioning. Certain styles of positioning yourself on the map allow for more convenient paths to gather boost. Below is a map of the field and its boost positions:

Blue dots represent a full charge capsule (100 boost, respawn time ~10 seconds)

Yellow dots represent a small charge pad (12 boost, respawn time ~4 seconds)

The lines and the figures (10280 and 8240 are measurement of length of the field in Unreal Units) Players boost meter is 0-100 units. Each player starts with 34 units (1/3 of the boost meter) filled at every kick-off. The lines and the figures (10280 and 8240 are measurement of length of the field in Unreal Units)

Players boost meter is 0-100 units. Each player starts with 34 units (1/3 of the boost meter) filled at every kick-off.

Basics of Boost Management

The methods of boost management are varied, however they all attempt to achieve the same goals:

  • Maximizing your current boost amount for team
  • Minimizing the downtime of refill for team
  • Minimizing the current boost amount of opponents
  • Maximizing the downtime of refill of opponents

Simplified, your aim is to have as high amount of boost as possible, whilst avoiding picking up unnecessary boost capsules in case your team mate is available to pick one up. The offensive part of boost management is boost denying, in which case you attempt to make sure that whilst you play, you negate opponent’s chances of picking up boost (especially the 100 capsules, since they refill boost to maximum, and they have the lowest respawn rate). Managing to completely starve your opponents of boost is difficult, but if successful, your team can apply massive amount of pressure on your opponent, typically resulting in a goal.

When you start positioning on the map, try to drive in a way that if you are not in need of a boost capsule, drive along the boost pads (as shown on the map, they are everywhere), this way you can keep your position whilst refilling boost, since each time you go for a 100 capsule, you create a gap in your positioning, as the capsules are located at the corners of the map. This means only go for the boost capsules in case it is absolute necessity to do so, and there is a timeframe which allows you to do so. Players often blindly aim for the boost capsules, even if their boost was at example 50, which isn’t a requirement, only few situations require you to spend the whole boost meter, and you can quickly refill yourself up by just driving over few boost pads.

A good rule of a thumb is to have 12 boost available at all times (boost worth of 1 pad), as it allows a small aerial and the capability to block any incoming shot towards the goal. The absolute worst case scenario of boost management is to be completely starved of boost (less than 6) in which case you cannot use boost even for the slightest speed increase.

If as a player you find yourself being out of boost a lot (The aim of boost management is to make sure it never happens), there are few, if not multiple things you do inconsistently, or you as a player do not manage your boost, which is a simple necessity.

Tips & Tricks

  • Your car will not go faster once you reach supersonic, once you reach supersonic avoid using unnecessary amounts of boost (holding it down)
  • Forward and backward dodges are a handy way to reserve boost, as they provide exponential speed increases and allow you to travel through the map quickly
  • You move backwards as fast as you move forwards (both backward dodges and regular driving), however you cannot boost backwards. This however can be circled around by jumping backwards and doing an inverted, low aerial. So essentially flying backwards = boosting in reverse.
  • Pay attention to the clock each time you see a boost capsule being picked up (especially at your end), this way you’ll know a good timeframe when the boost is about to respawn, once you master this technique you can pick them up by driving over them at the exact moment of their respawn, combined with good map awareness this gives you an edge you may possibly need in a match, in addition it allows greater chance of denying your opponent of boost
  • Are you pressurized or on defense and cannot risk going to the corner to pick up an entire capsule? Fear not, there are plenty of boost pads available right next to your goal, and since their respawn time is low, you can pick them up repeatedly as a last resort
  • Learn to drive along the boost pads, once this process becomes automated you have much lesser chance of ever being low on boost
  • Boost is a necessity for majority of plays, think before you use it

Rocket League - How To Defend

A quick tutorial on how to defend in rocket league, strategies and training packs for people to practice.

Shadow Defense

It consists in following the opponent at a prudential distance, this distance must be the ideal one in order to stop any incoming shot or a dribbling attempt.

When you start playing Rocket League, it seems that the only way to take away the ball from the opponent is to ballchase like crazy towards him, but when the opponents get better they can dribble the ball, and make you predictable. To avoid being predictable there is the shadow defense, because this is a type of defence in which you don’t risk anything.

How To Perform It

In Order to practice shadow defense you want to place yourself a couple of cars away from your opponent. REMEMBER this distance should be enough for you to be able to react to his shots/dribbles in time. In this position, you will want to imitate his movement like if we were a mirror and to make sure he doesn't overtakes with the ball. This concept is applied in different IRL sports including soccer and basketball.

Training Pack: 79EC-EC65-CA31-4561

Backboard Defense

Spiderman would be an incredible Rocket League player and not only because of his spider sense, but because of his ability of climbing walls and staying in them.

Moving in the wall and defending on them is something essential for defence and attacking. This consists of maintaining your position in the wall of your net area (backboard). This defense is key for 2 different reasons:

  • You can guard center passes
  • You can save shots with no boost

Training Pack: 99E5-4AA3-60D5-44BD

Note: Doesn’t matter if its a good position, it's Important to know when to and not to go towards the backboard, because you cannot go in the backboard anytime you want, Its important to know when to do it. It is also important to know what to do with the ball once you are on the backboard.

Saves

Saves are crucial in the matches, To be a good goalkeeper you need to know how to do these 3 things:

  • Read what the opponent will do next
  • Know how to do a double jump aerial
  • Know how to clear the ball

If the opponent is getting ready for an aerial, jump and go for it before he gets there. If the opponent is ready to attempt a powershot, be patient in net. Saving the ball is 70% positioning and 30% skill, so its important for the goalkeeper to be 1 step ahead of the opponent. There is a small tip and it is to stay in motion while in net

Rocket League - How To Rotate

A quick guide on how to rotate in rocket league competitive gamemodes, but I will be focusing on 2s and 3s.

Offense

Involves different playstyles and positionings known as the passer, shooter, and help. If you are playing 2s then the help will be negated and its responsibilities split between the two players instead. Every player has an exit rotation which means that once they complete their offensive job, then they should rotate back toward their goal and start the process all over again.

The Passer:

The passer is the one who will push the ball up the field, usually along the wall, and they can either take a shot on goal or pass it across the middle. Once the pass is made they should rotate back toward their own goal to prepare for the opponent to clear the ball back down the field.

The Shooter:

The shooter will be pushing up towards the middle, but being a little behind the passer. They must be ready to put pressure on the goal to either put the pass in the goal or ensure that a blocked shot remains on that end of the field.

The Helper:

It's basically the last resort and is there to serve whatever purpose is necessary, For instance, if the shooter misses the shot or it was a bit too far behind them then the help can rush forward to finish the ball. (this one only applies in 3s)

Defense

Defensive rotations are fairly simple compared to offensive rotations, as every player follows the same path. You have one player who pushes the ball and then the other one/two players take a goal post. It creates a defense system so nothing can sneak by your team.

Tips & Tricks

  1. Do not chase the ball
  2. Do not cut your teamates rotation
  3. If you still have issues with rotating, watch a youtube video :)

Rocket League - How to Add Free-to-Play to Steam

Create a working non-Steam game shortcut to launch the free-to-play PC version of Rocket League from your Steam Library, with full online support.

Introduction

The following guide details how to create a working non-Steam game shortcut to launch Rocket League from your Steam Library, with full online support.

Rocket League was pulled from the Steam Store before transitioning to a free-to-play model. There's no current way to purchase it with your Steam account unless you activate a valid Rocket League product key or Steam gift.

Once finished, you should have a Rocket League shortcut within your Steam Library that will:

  • Show your game with all artwork on both the new Steam Library Update and Big Picture mode.
  • Launch the game.
  • Send "Is Now Playing" and "Currently In-Game" notifications to your Steam friends and other users.

You will be able to add this shortcut to your Favorites or any other Collection within your Steam Library.

If you already own Rocket League on Steam, this guide is not for you. The following method is aimed specifically at those who started playing the game after its free-to-play relaunch on EGS.

Requirements

For this guide, you will need the following:

  • Valid Steam and EGS accounts.
  • Steam Client and EGS Launcher, both installed and updated on your computer. You must be logged in on both.
  • Rocket League installed from EGS.

This guide uses default directory paths for both Steam and EGS on a sole HDD/SSD Windows 10 64-bit installation. [C: drive, Program Files, Program Files (x86), etc.] Make sure to change these if you're on a different OS (Linux, macOS) or if you installed Steam/EGS on another drive/directory.

Creating the Shortcut

  1. Open the Steam Client window and click on "Add a Game" in the lower left corner, then select "Add a Non-Steam Game..."
  2. Click on the "Browse..." button and go to:
    •  C:\Program Files\Epic Games\rocketleague\Binaries\Win64\
  3. Select RocketLeague.exe, click "OK", then click the "Add Selected Programs" button.

Tweaking [IMPORTANT!]

You now have a Rocket League shortcut, but we're far from finished. Using it as-is will launch the game in offline mode with no connection to online servers or your EGS account.

Here's how to fix that:

  1. Right-click the shortcut and select "Properties."
  2. Replace the shortcut name with "Rocket League" (no quotation marks).
  3. Paste the following URL path in the "Target" field:
    •  com.epicgames.launcher://apps/Sugar?action=launch&silent=true
  4. If the icon isn't showing, click the "Choose Icon" button and select the following path:
    1.  C:\Program Files\Epic Games\rocketleague\Binaries\Win64\RocketLeague.exe
  5. Click the "Close" button.

Adding Banners

The Rocket League shortcut should now work properly. Still, it looks horrible compared to everything else in your Steam Library, doesn't it? Let's fix that!

Here's where you can download all current Rocket League artwork for Steam:

Grid image (for Big Picture mode).

Library capsule (for the updated Steam Library grid).

Hero image (header for your Library Details page).

Logo (for the header in your Library Details page).

Previous logo (if you prefer the old Rocket League one with the blue shield icon).

You may have noticed the banners for Rocket League have changed to coincide with the game's new free-to-play season schedule. If you don't wish to change your banners every season, or would simply like other images for the game, there are many places on the web where you can find artwork to personalize both Steam and non-Steam games within your library. Just search for "steam grid" or "steam library" in your web browser.

If you have graphic design skills, your can make your own unique banners for the game. You can find all info on Steam Library artwork dimensions and requirements here:

Library Assets | Steamworks Documentation

Setting the Library Capsule

  • Right-click your Rocket League shortcut and select "Manage > Set Custom Artwork."
  • Select "library_600x900_2x.jpg" or whatever image you downloaded for your Library capsule and click "Open."

Setting the Horizontal Grid Image

Library

  1. Right-click your Rocket League shortcut, select "Play" and close the game. The shorcut should now have moved to first place within the "RECENT GAMES" shelf in your Library.
  2. Right-click this "RECENT GAMES" shortcut and select "Manage > Set Custom Artwork."
  3. Select "header.jpg" or whatever image you downloaded for your grid image and click "Open."

Big Picture

  1. Go to "Library" in Big Picture mode.
  2. Right-click your Rocket League shortcut and select "Organize > Change Icon."
  3. Select "header.jpg" or whatever image you downloaded for your grid image and click "Choose."

Setting the Hero Image

  1. Click on your Rocket League shortcut to go to the Library Details page.
  2. Right-click the header area and select "Set Custom Background."
  3. Select "library_hero.jpg" or whatever image you downloaded for your hero image and click "Open."

Setting the Logo

  1. Click on your Rocket League shortcut to go to the Library Details page.
  2. Right-click the header area and select "Set Custom Logo."
  3. Select "logo_2x.png," "logo_2x.png" or whatever image you downloaded for your logo and click "Open."
  4. Right-click the header area again and select "Adjust Logo Position" to change the size and placement of the logo within the hero image.

Limitations

The EGS URL path used by the Rocket shortcut overrides the in-game Steam Overlay in favor for the EGS Overlay. As such, standard Steam Overlay features and Steam screenshots will be disabled while playing.

Since this is a non-Steam game shortcut, the following Steam features will also be unavailable while playing:

  • Play-streaming to mobile devices.
  • Playtime activity and statistics.
  • Steam Achievements and progression.
  • "Show More Details" button and game info.
  • "Library Details" tabs: "Store Page," "Community Hub," "Points Shop," "Find Groups," "Discussions," "Guides," "Workshop," and "Support."
  • Game reviews.
  • Steam Workshop subscribed content.

User-generated Steam Workshop maps can be played on EGS Rocket League by downloading them from an external source, then overwriting an existing map in the game's directory or using BakkesMod.

Troubleshooting

If the Rocket League shortcut doesn't launch the game after tweaking it, the internal EGS URL path for the game may have changed. Here's how to find the correct path to launch free-to-play Rocket League:

  1. Open the EGS Launcher and go to "Library."
  2. Click on the drop-down menu [...] for Rocket League and select "Create a Shortcut." This will generate a Windows shortcut for Rocket League in your desktop. You can close the EGS Launcher window if you wish.
  3. Go to your Desktop, right-click the Rocket League shortcut and select "Properties."
  4. Copy the contents of the "URL" field and close the Properties window.
  5. Go to your Steam Library, right-click your Rocket League shortcut and select "Properties."
  6. Replace the "Target" field with the copied URL path.
  7. Click the "Close" button.
